Re: Balsa wood settings

WELL Why not cut the plans as imported and hang the dimensions? If the .pdf is accurate, cut it! It might not be the size as detailed in the print, but it will be correct vis-à-vis the other components on the print. After all, that's exactly what the other gent is doing except he's doing it by hand....

Re: Balsa wood settings

A few comments... After importing the wing rib found it to be different size, at this point laser is NOT connected... It makes no difference if your laser is connected or not. Lightburn is a design/layout/editing tool that also acts as the controller for your laser. The shapes in Lightburn will not ...

Re: Balsa wood settings

Maybe a stupid question, but to confirm just in case... Are your other cuts and engravings dimensionally accurate, so this is the only project you are having issues with? Can you burn the accuracy test (say, a square or rectangle with specific dimensions) and measure the result? Just asking to conf...

Re: Balsa wood settings

... But shorely I haven't got to keep doing this on each component. Advice please. No. You shouldn't need to run a test piece on every component. I agree with Vecchio, it would be a good move to make sure your machine is cutting accurately before you start producing any dimension critical parts.

Re: Balsa wood settings

Is the finished item bigger than what Lightburn shows?

It sounds like you have a scaling problem and that could be caused by a number of factors. Be ready for a lot of questions from the goo-roos here.

Re: Flip Some Wood

Your first intuition is the best solution. Use a jig for accurate, repeatable work-piece placement and use absolute co-ordinates. If your work-piece is in a known location relative to machine 'home' you'll be able to accurately predict where the laser will move. As thelmuth pointed out, engrave firs...

^^^ This is the correct answer ^^^

Roly's have an enclosure that's orange. Should I not trust that because of the color?

Re: Help with lightburn engraving text inside shaded area

You'll want to import an image of your desired gray tone then use masks to define the shape of the oval and the text.

Like so;

Re: Is there a 10W cutting and engraving library available ?

Hi Joy, Any 10 watt library will do as a starting point . Look here I stress "starting point" because you will need to run tests for each material you intend to burn. Every environment is unique so fine-tuning is a must-do. Welcome to the circus. Please keep your arms inside the ride at al...
