Dear members,
I am new to this forum and I plan to build a CNC router.
I purchased stepper motors from oyostepper which come with a CL86 stepper motor driver.
My question is…
- Can I control this driver using a PC parallel port?
- How do I connect a parallel port to this driver
- If yes, what software supports controlling this driver?

Thanks for looking at my question.

Re: Driving stepper motors via PC
DIrect stepping control from a PC parallel port is the way small hobby robots were run in the early 1980's. Not very effective unless you have tight control over the timing.
Best option is to buy an inexpensive XYZ type controller that understands G-Code commands over a USB or other modern link. This will eliminate 95% of the headaches designing your own control software and let you spend the hours making real progress on a solid and reliable machine that can use many of the current generations of CNC software.
