I'd recommend something with color. I'm putting hot pink food coloring in mine: NWT Saga
It makes finding thin spots and blotches much easier.

1. Interesting. I will have to try that!
2. ... damn that looks nice!
The name is RebelTaz. Been building and using 3d printers and cnc machines for years, but new to laser cutters/engravers. Thanks for having me!

I also use a heat shrink "gun" to speed up the drying. The stuff changes color when it's dry and then you can see flaws very easily.

Re: Paint for engraving glass
I realize I'm a bit late to the game here, but as I was reading through everyone's posts here I didn't notice anyone mention black spray chalk. Has anyone else been trying it? I only just started glass work but it was the first spray I tried and I'm currently following up with black tempera (failed first test, I was using 1/4 tempera/ 3/4 rubbing alcohol, pretty sure the coats were too thin, somehow got nothing and overburn with a small line of black frosting). The spray chalk seems to be testing well and I'll be following it up in a bit with image tests.
Edit: Continuation- okay wow... uhh, is tempera supposed to take a half hour to dry, or is this somehow because I cut it with rubbing alcohol? I can finish multiple coats of spray chalk in the same amount of time... don't get me wrong, the chalk has it's own problems like clogging a ton. Already considering a hybrid method of decanting spray chalk into small containers and spray bottling or air spraying as needed.

I'm a Josh, and I've been slowly working on small wood projects for a year now. That said, my original reasons are still true, glass frosting and metal posters!

Re: Paint for engraving glass
I use tempera and I thin it with a little water. I use an airbrush and the thinning helps with a consistent spry. If you are doing a lot of glass I would recommend that you get an airbrush. They are cheap and work great.
As far as dry time, it all depends on how thick the coat is, air temp ETC. I use several thin coats (airbrush is great for that) and if you're in a rush a heat gun works well.
Good luck

Re: Paint for engraving glass
Yup, thanks, pretty sure the drying issue was environmental. Warm cycle in a toaster oven solved it. *laughs* It still hadn't dried the next morning! That said, it was ProArt Black Tempera, and it ended up doing black etch. Not what I'm after this moment... Local supply brands are limited, probably order something else online for more tests. Might as well experiment with other spray chalk brands while I'm at it. That said, black Montana MTN PRO Erasable Chalk Paint has been frosting well on what I'm assuming is lime glass. It's the borosilicate glass that is giving me trouble now oh well, I'll figure it out.
