sealing cork coasters

Post by Garysfirstlaser »

For some reason I cannot find Rich's video on engraving and sealing cork coasters. If my memory was correct, he sprayed them with water a few times, but this old boy can't remember. Sometimes its hell to get old.
Any Insite would be a great help.
Thanks

Does anyone use anything else on the cork. It's a hot pan for on the counter for my granddaughter, so I wouldn't want the pans to stick to the bottom or the charred cork on her pans.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks all

Has anyone used minwax water based polyacrylic on cork? I made 3 trivets for my wife, daughter, and granddaughter for the counter.
So I hope this would work to seal after lasering. I've soaked them with water and let them dry, but if you rub in the lasered you still get the burnt cork on your finger.
If I can get then downloaded Ill show you what I want to seal. Each trivet is 11" x 11".

Maybe I didn't say this correctly, I have watched Rich's video a dozen times and after soaking the cork in water will that set the charred cork where it doesn't rub off or stink yet. I figure the bigger size would be used to set a hot dish (say out of the oven) on. So, I wondered if there would be a spray or brush on coating to seal the trivet that would also be heat resistant.
Thanks

I was hoping for some guidance here also.
Hi, my name is Mike.

I am using NEJE 3 Max laser and a Longmill MK2 for CNC woodworking. The learning has been fun and frustrating, sometimes at the same
time.

Sealing cork defeats the purpose, and if you're using it as a hotplate, you really don't want to seal them.

Thanks Rich,
Does the burnt cork smell go away after time. Also, how long do you rinse the second time?
Thanks
Gary
p.s.
I really enjoy your videos and have learned allot from them. This just stumped me.
