I am trying to make a playing card box. The box itself is from boxes.py, but the cover is my design. I made the mistake of not looking close enough at the preview before I ran it. When I came back, the scrollwork was burned completely through. (I do keep an eye on it with a webcam, just so there's no fire, but I can't see the intricate details as it burns.) I thought I just had the power too high, so I tried again at a lower setting and got the same thing. it finally dawned on me to look at the preview closer.
I was amazed. It's running what looks like a spirograph pattern! I wanted this to do a line drawing because fill mode just looks too busy for my taste, but...
Can anyone tell me why on earth this thing is going old school Hasbro on me?!
EDIT: It looks like I might can do Offset Fill to get the effect I want, but... I would still like to know what's going on here...

You have a corrupted layer, #9.
This is what I get when I move the drawing to another layer:

Really? How does one get a corrupted layer? That's crazy. Thank you!LAHobbyGuy wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 11:41 amYou have a corrupted layer, #9.

Try changing the layer to Fill, and see if that's what you want...

It's rare, but I've seen it happen. Layer 9 remembered and offset fill from a previous job, and now you have it set to line, and it's doing both. Hold down shift, click on layer 9 on the cuts / layers tab (to select everything on that layer), and then click another layer on the color palette below.

Re: What's With the Spirograph!?
So... It wasn't exactly the layer itself that is corrupting. Or not by itself anyway. It seems to be the Material Library settings causing it. I did as you said and sure enough, it was fine, but the speed and power settings were wrong. So I assigned the settings from my Library for that Material, which are stored for that one as an Offset Fill. When I changed that to Fine... BAM! Instant Spirograph. I deleted that Material; moved the design to a new layer again; manually set the settings for that layer; and created a new Material from that layer - as Line. Now, when I change it from Line to Offset Fill or Fill and back to Line, everything is copacetic.LAHobbyGuy wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 5:12 pmIt's rare, but I've seen it happen. I appreciate the help. I would have NEVER figured that out!

Keep in mind, the libraries and the color palette are binary code that is translated and stored on demand. So the slightest interruption of data on your computer has been know to corrupt them. Sometimes something as small as a power flicker, or AC compressor or fridge turning on. I'm happy you got it working.rebeltaz wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 6:22 pm ...I deleted that Material; moved the design to a new layer again; manually set the settings for that layer; and created a new Material from that layer - as Line. So with that in mind, does it make sense to keep a couple of copies of the libraries at least, so if something like that happens you can just swap it out?LAHobbyGuy wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 3:18 pm

Using an Atomstack A20 20W with an RA2 rotary, and Roly LaserMatic10. Professional cabinet maker with plenty of scraps to burn.

Nah, the corruption happens on the loaded copy, so it's fine.dovetaildan wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 6:22 pm ...So with that in mind, does it make sense to keep a couple of copies of the libraries at least, so if something like that happens you can just swap it out?
