Has anyone had any problems with the newest upgrade (1.7.06? Mine is working fine but I'm wondering if I want to take the chance to update or wait for a bit just to be safe?

I spent years in professional services for a large security vendor servicing enterprise clients and here's what I always recommended to them.

Read the release notes. If a patch solves a problem you are experiencing, then you should upgrade. If not and you're OK with not running the latest, greatest version, then don't upgrade.

LIghtburn 1.7.06 is a minor patch. I wouldn't worry too much about staying super current but always keeping in mind any problems you might be having with your current version.

I always update Lightburn right away just in case I need to help anyone but normally I wait a bit for other software (when I can)

I just upgraded my LightBurn to version 1.7.08 yesterday (3/27/2025), still trying to find out what was added or what improvements were made, but find any information on that. But it is working with no problems. I am running a Longer Ray10 laser.
best of luck and happy lasering.....

I have a Longer Ray5 10W laser. The things that I want to accomplish is to engrave on CLEAR acrylic. I'm getting pretty good with doing the text, but , images are a different story. I'm still trying to get a good picture on Basswood. This forum has been a LOT of help, thanks to all that contribute.

Lightburn releases that end in point zero anything but (1.1) are mostly patches for specific laser control boards, new control boards, or bug fixes. Occasionally, there will be a new feature or two. Whole numbers like V1.0, 2.0 etc, are full program releases. All updates are safe and you shouldn't be hesitant to install them. Worst case scenario is reverting to last version by simply reinstalling it. It will likely already be in your downloads folder or you can download any version here.

All Lightburn releases are available for download here.
If you would prefer to know what has changed in the new version, you can always read the release notes here on the blog before downloading it.

I have upgraded to Lightburn 2.00-RC-9 and I like the improvements. Every upgrade of Lightburn has had some improvements. I have had no problems with the upgrade. I am using a Longer Ray5 10w laser and they work really well together.
